Chances for rain across the region will increase throughout the day. Eastern Massachusetts has the greatest chance of showers. Temperatures are unlikely to climb above 70 degrees, with dewpoints dropping into the 40s, according to the National Weather Service.


Today’s temperatures could be the coolest in almost a month. The last time Boston saw a daytime high below 70 degrees was June 27, when the temperature at Logan International Airport reached 66 degrees for the day.


Skies will stay mostly cloudy today. A Northeast wind developing gusts of around 15 miles per hour later in the day. The chance of precipitation will also increase throughout the day. Boston could see a quarter inch of rain by the evening.


Rain will continue Friday, with a 60 percent chance of showers for Boston. Temperatures will rise into the low 70s on Friday, according to the weather service. Rain will diminish across most of the state in the afternoon, except in Northeast Massachusetts where it could linger into the evening.


“We will see drier weather and partial clearing on Friday night, setting things up for a beautiful Saturday,” said meteorologist Alan Dunham.


Temperatures will become seasonable on Saturday, climbing into the mid-80s. The chance of showers will increase into the evening, but significant precipitation isn’t expected.


Sunday will revert back to the week’s weather pattern. Rain and thunderstorms will likely develop around noon. Skies will be cloudy, with temperatures in the low 80s, Dunham said.


The weather trend for next week calls for drier and less humid weather, possibly into Wednesday, according to the weather service.
