Connecticut father delivers daughter in the car on I-91

Rian Madison Walker certainly has an interesting birth story to tell.

That's because she was delivered by her own father, inside her parents' car on the side of Interstate 91 in Connecticut at 3 a.m. in a rainstorm, The Hartford Courant reports.

It all happened Friday morning. When Curt Walker's wife Natalie went into labor, he began driving her from their home in Middletown to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, according to the report. But the couple soon realized they would not make it. The baby was ready to come. So he pulled over and called 911.

He was connected with dispatcher Paula Freeman, who guided him through the delivery.

"Never in a million years did I think I would have the opportunity to deliver my own daughter," Walker told The Hartford Courant.

And it wasn't Freeman's first time helping deliver a baby via phone. In her 27 years as a dispatcher with the Connecticut State Police, she has helped deliver two other babies.
