ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Red Sox made some roster moves today following the 14-inning game on Monday.
Righthander Jose De La Torre is here from Triple A Pawtucket to add some depth to the bullpen. But his stay could be brief. The Red Sox need a starter for Wednesday and that will be Alfredo Aceves.
De La Torre could well be optioned to make room for Aceves. Farrell indicated another roster move could come before the series in Baltimore starts on Thursday. That could be Aceves going back and another reliever (Alex Wilson?) coming up.
Clayton Mortensen was placed on the 15-day disabled list with what the Red Sox are saying is a right groin strain.
Also:
• Clay Buchholz will throw a bullpen session in Baltimore on Friday. Barring a setback, he would start on Sunday.
The rotation for Baltimore appears to be Felix Doubront, Ryan Dempster, John Lackey and Buchholz.
• Draft picks Jordon Austin (OF, 6th round) and Mike Adams (LHP 7th round) are at Tropicana Field with northern Florida area scout Tom Kotchman and watched batting practice from the field.
