Ortiz is hitting .333 with a 1.023 OPS, 10 home runs, and 36 RBIs in 39 games. He is an eight-time All-Star and four times was elected as a starter.
The All-Star Game is July 16 at Citi Field in New York. Voting can be done inside ballparks up until June 28 and online until July 4 at 11:59 p.m (EDT). The rosters will be announced July 7.
Mike Napoli is third in the voting at first base with 380,448 votes. He trails Chris Davis of the Orioles (1,176,016) and Prince Fielder of the Tigers (1,059,300).
Dustin Pedroia is third in the voting at second base with 642,419 votes. He trails Yankees star Robinson Cano (1,235,230) and Ian Kinsler of the Rangers (656,827).
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is fifth among catchers.
Jacoby Ellsbury (ninth) and Shane Victorino (14th) are well behind in the outfield voting.
Ortiz was the only Red Sox player on the All-Star team last season. Ortiz, Napoli, Pedroia, Clay Buchholz, and Jon Lester would appear to be strong candidates this season.
