Heat advisory issued for Massachusetts as steamy temperatures could feel like 100 degrees

A very warm and humid day lies ahead, with sweltering conditions that are expected to last through Thursday. Today will be sunny, with temperatures nearing 92 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

And, even though school has reopened and Memorial Day 2013 is a memory, forecasters have issued a heat advisory for much of Eastern Massachusetts because the heat and humidity will make it feel like it’s over 100 degrees.

Plenty of sunshine will come to the state today, and most areas will remain dry. A few showers and thunderstorms could kick off this evening in Western Massachusetts, but no significant precipitation is expected. Temperatures will drop into the mid-70s overnight.

“Tomorrow is not going to be quite as hot, but with dew points in the 70s it will still feel pretty miserable,” said Alan Dunham, weather service meteorologist.

Temperatures will climb into the mid-80s on Thursday, with heavy rain likely. Showers and thunderstorms are likely after 1 p.m., and could bringing heavy rain and wind gusts up to 28 miles per hour. Sunshine will peek through the clouds at times, but scattered showers are likely until at least 9 p.m.

Showers are possible early Friday, until about 11 a.m., and a cold front will enter the region. Temperatures will crest in the mid-70s, and skies will be partly sunny, according to the weather service. Some showers will continue overnight, but will diminish by 1 a.m. Saturday.

Saturday and Sunday will see pleasant weather, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures hovering in the upper 60s to low 70s. This dry, cool weather should last until at least Tuesday.

“We will have a beautiful, delightful weekend,” Dunham said. “Conditions will definitely feel like fall.”
