Cambridge Open Market kicked off near Harvard Square this Friday afternoon. The market, brought by the makers of SoWa and The Greenway, featured many local artisans, artists, and businesses and will continue throughout the fall.

Liz Frame of Factory Girl has been making vintage jewelry for about 5 years. “All the pieces are handmade by me,” Frame said. “Each piece is essentially one of a kind.”

Fifth and Madison, based in Boston, offers handmade candles and lotions. Shane Nassar, the creator and founder, said the company started in an apartment and has now grown into a factory. “Everything is handmade, all natural, and locally sourced,” Nassar said.

Steven Beaucher, the owner and co-founder of WardMaps LLC, Boston Coasters, and MBTAgifts sold products made with antique maps, independent art, and transit memorabilia. He said the companies use their own designs as well as the art of about 50 other local artists.

Ninefiveltd (Live This Day) was created by Todd Saggese. After working for Reebok, he started his own company and clothing line that would encourage consumers to live each day to the fullest. The company also donates 20 percent of proceeds to various organizations.

Nancy’s Gone Green, an eco-friendly online retailer based in Framingham, sold jewelry, clothing, and accessories. The products are made with organic, natural, recycled, and upcycled materials.

Carmine Mutascio of Camu Imports LLC travels to Thailand and Laos to purchase handmade jewelry for his Boston based company. “I go to a lot of small markets like this and buy directly from the people making the pieces,” Mutascio said.

Artist Piper Strong displayed her tin and enamel art at the open market. She said other famous works of art inspires many of her pieces. “I take it so far and then make it my own,” Strong said.

Victoria Mares of Kansas Road at Affinity Arts displayed wet felting pieces. She said the pieces require wool, hand pressure, design, hot water, and friction to create.
