Haverhill police are seeking the publicâ™s help in identifying a man who allegedly stalked a young girl in a supermarket and took an inappropriate photo of her on his cellphone, police said.
At around 1 p.m. Monday, a man followed a woman and her 7-year-old daughter into the Market Basket at Westgate Plaza. The man did not have a shopping cart and did not appear to be looking at items as he followed the two, said Lieutenant Robert Pistone.
After about 25 minutes the mother bent down to look at an item. The man approached the girl and used his cellphone to take a picture up her skirt, Pistone said.
The mother noticed that he had approached her child and asked him if he touched her. He replied that he was sorry and walked away, exiting the store, Pistone said.
The mother reported the incident to the store manager, who called police. At first, she was not aware that the suspect took a photo of her child, Pistone said.
The suspect is a white male, between 25 and 35 years old, with light-colored hair. He was wearing a green-collared shirt and dark athletic shorts, according to a police report.
