Official: Edwin Alemany linked to Amy Lord murder

DNA testing has linked Edwin J. Alemany to the slaying of Amy Lord, and he will be charged with first-degree murder, according to an official with knowledge of the case.

The murder charge is expected to be annnounced by authorities at an 11:30 news conference.

Lord, 24, was abducted on July 23 as she left her Dorchester Street residence in South Boston. She was driven to several ATMs to withdraw cash, and then stabbed to death before her body was dumped in a Hyde Park reservation, authorities have said.

Alemany, 28, of Boston, who has been arrested on charges relating to two other attacks of women in the same area during the same time-frame, had been described as a “person of interest” by authorities, who said they were confident and comfortable with their investigation and waiting for forensic testing results before charging him.

Lord, a Bentley University graduate from the town of Wilbraham, was beginning her career at a digital marketing and Web design firm.

Alemany has faced more than 30 criminal charges since his 18th birthday.

Alemany’s arraignment in charges stemming from the other two attacks has been postponed. A judged ordered him to first undergo a 20-day hospital evaluation. His lawyer and a psychiatrist who spoke to him described Alemany as suicidal and incoherent.
