Boston police respond to report of officer shot on Dorchester Avenue

Two Boston police officers and a suspect were shot this afternoon in Dorchester, police said.

The officers’ injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, police said. The suspect, in traumatic arrest, was transported to Boston Medical Center, a Boston EMS spokesman said.

The shooting occurred in the area of 1500 Dorchester Ave., police said.

Police said they were searching for a second suspect. On their official Twitter account, police described the second suspect as a black male with a light complexion, a slim build, and braided hair, wearing a maroon shirt with stripes.

Witness Fafane Cruz said shots rang out at Dorchester Avenue and Shepton Street. Cruz said she heard an officer say, “Put down your weapon.” After that, there was a series of deep, booming shots, she said.

She also said she saw a police officer and a suspect get put into ambulances.

Another witness said police approached suspects at Adams Furniture and then chased them down the street, where shooting broke out.

The MBTA said it was holding Red Line trains at Fields Corner due to police activity in the area.

A large crowd of residents gathered behind the police tape near the shooting scene. A large police contingent was also in the area, along with ambulances.
