A federal grand jury today indicted Robel Phillipos, a friend of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, on charges of lying to investigators, despite attempts by Phillipos’ defense lawyers to resolve the case.

Phillipos, a 19-year-old Cambridge native, is accused of lying to investigators about going to Tsarnaev’s University of Massachusetts Dartmouth dorm room with two other friends the night of April 18 and removing evidence that was later dumped in the rubbish.

The April 15 bombings killed three and wounded more than 260 people. Dzokhar and his brother, Tamerlan, are also believed to have killed an MIT police officer. Tamerlan was killed in a confrontation with police.
