Rescue crews are searching for a man who fell overboard Saturday night from the Provincetown II ferry into the Boston Harbor, according to a statement from the Coast Guard.
At approximately 10:45 p.m., the Coast Guard Sector Boston was notified by the ferryâ™s crew that the man had fallen from the third deck into the water near Castle Island in South Boston, according to the statement.
The Coast Guard sent two boat crews and a helicopter to assist in the search. The ferry is also involved in the search.
âœWe are using a variety of Coast Guard, State and local agencies in the search,â said Commander Sean Carroll, the search and rescue mission coordinator at Sector Boston. âœThis is a significant, multi-agency effort.â
Boston Police and Fire Departments, Boston Harbor Police, Quincy Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and MassPort Fire Department are all involved in the search.
With a capacity to accommodate up to 1,100 passengers, the Provincetown II is the largest ferry working Boston Harbor, according to the website of its owner, the Bay State Cruise Company.
