Firefighters battled 7-alarm fire early Thursday morning at a triple-decker building on Calvin Street in Somerville. Reports said the firefighters were trying to prevent the fire from spreading to other homes along the narrow street.
Officials have been investigating a string of fires in Somerville this month.
The smell of smoke reached waking residents in Cambridge, Brookline, and Boston.
