Officials: Murdered woman was kidnapped

A young woman whose body was discovered in Hyde Park’s Stony Brook Reservation Tuesday was kidnapped in South Boston and forced to withdraw money from ATMs before she was repeatedly stabbed, according to two law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation.

No arrests have been reported, but Boston police and Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office are actively investigating the crime.

The victim lived in South Boston and was reported missing to police this week, according to the officials, who were not authorized to speak publicly about the crime.

The woman was in South Boston when two men grabbed her at knifepoint, according to the officials. The men forced the woman into her car and made her withdraw money from ATMs.

The woman was stabbed multiple times before her body was dumped in the reservation.

According to the officials, the woman’s car was later recovered in South Boston, where it had been set on fire.

A large police presence remained at the reservation this morning as police continued to investigate the area where the woman’s body was found.

More than 30 Boston police cruisers lined Enneking Parkway, in addition to another dozen or so unmarked vehicles.

Dozens of officers filed in and out of the wooded area. Some unloaded rakes and shovels from a Public Works Department truck.

The area is a popular walking and jogging pathway, said Kathy Pepe of Roslindale, who runs a pet care company and often walks dogs in the area.

“I come here almost every day,” Pepe said as she stood with the dog she was walking.“I’ve been coming here for almost 10 years.”

She added,“I’m wondering who the victim was. ’Cause I know a lot of dogwalkers who go in here. The first thing I thought was of the other dogwalkers.”

Authorities have not released the name of the woman who was murdered.
