Dorchester woman dead in Sumner Tunnel crash; Motorcyclist injured in Middleborough

A 33-year-old Dorchester woman died when the car she was driving struck a piece of concrete between two lanes on the Sumner Tunnel off ramp early this morning, a Suffolk district attorney’s spokesman said.

Three passengers, all adults from Boston, are expected to live, said Jake Wark, a spokesman for the Suffolk District Attorney’s office.

The car was exiting the tunnel near Government Center going south when it crashed at about 3:30 a.m., said Wark.

Wark declined to identify the driver or her passengers.

Hours earlier in Middleborough, a 45-year-old man lost control of his 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle while crossing railroad tracks on Spruce Street just after midnight, police said.

The man was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham in serious condition, then flown to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Middleborough police Sergeant Mark Pontes said.

Pontes said he did not know what the man’s condition was.

The cause of the crash was unclear. The preliminary report made no mention of speeding, drugs, or alcohol, Pontes said.

No other injuries were reported.
