JOHN BLANDING/Globe staff
Sometimes, in a summer like the one we’re currently wilting through, your typical kitchen routine just won’t cut it. Ovens and broilers are off and even outdoor grilling can seem insufferable. Your window unit never seemed so powerless. In temperatures at times approaching triple digits, lighter fare like salads and oysters look downright salivating, but what to drink with everything green and briny? Believe me, it’s not Pinot Grigio.
There’s an affordable, and dare I say interesting, way to perk up your tongue without having to choke down some vile bulk juice. Smaller producers from forgotten regions and innovative winemakers embracing the future of screwcaps and Tetra Paks are redefining casual imbibing. I asked local wine experts for their favorite ways to cool down this summer and came up with 15 off-the-beaten bottles (or boxes!) to enjoy with everything salty, citrusy, and fried.
