The New York Times recently claimed that South Boston natives refer to their neighborhood as "SoBo." Developers in cities across the country have seized on SoHo-derived nicknames to reclaim decaying urban neighborhoods and promote them as edgy and artsy. Southie residents probably disagree, but some area nicknames have stuck, like the industrial section south of Washington Street in the South End now known as SoWa.
