Round 1: Trey Ball (LHP)
Hometown: New Castle, Ind. (played at New Castle Chrysler High School in 2013)
The Red Sox had their highest selection in years, and with the number seven overall pick they took Trey Ball, a lefthanded pitcher out of New Castle Chrysler High School. The 6-foot-6, 175-pound southpaw was the ninth-ranked draft-eligible player, according to Baseball America. He is projected by the Red Sox to be a top-of-the-line starter.
"We viewed Trey as one of the most complete players available in this year's draft," amateur scouting director Amiel Sawdaye said in a press release. "His size, athleticism, competitiveness, and makeup made him attractive to the Red Sox as we watched his outstanding performance as both a pitcher and an outfielder. We were thrilled that such a talented player was available to us, and believe that Trey will excel professionally as a lefthanded pitcher."
Ball is coming off of a stellar senior season in which he had a 6-0 record with a 0.76 ERA while recording 93 strikeouts in 46 innings. He also hit .322 as an outfielder, with 10 home runs, 21 steals, and 31 walks in 90 plate appearances. The individual numbers, along with leading his team to a North Central Conference championship, earned him the honor of Indiana Player of the Year, and garnered a scholarship to play at the University of Texas.
It was announced on June 19 that Ball has officially signed with the Red Sox.

Round 2: Teddy Stankiewicz (RHP)
Hometown: Keller, Texas (played at Seminole State College in 2013)
RHP Teddy Stankiewicz was the Red Sox’ second draft choice this year, with the 45th overall pick. The 19-year-old played this past season at Seminole State College, a junior college in Oklahoma. Drafted by the Mets out of high school in 2012, he decided to play at Seminole State for a year instead, and the experience improved his draft stock.
"He's a big, physical pitcher. He's got, probably for me, one of the best deliveries in the Draft," said Sawdaye. "His arm works really well. He throws three pitches, and he really commands his fastball.”
Stankiewicz made 11 appearances this season for Seminole State, starting nine. He went 4-5 with a 2.52 ERA in 60.2 innings, while striking out 70. He was the first major draft pick signed by the Red Sox from this year’s draft, officially becoming a member of the Red Sox organization on June 10. Stankiewicz will begin his pro career with the Red Sox Single-A affiliate, the Lowell Spinners.

Round 3: Jon Denney (C)
Hometown: Yukon, Okla. (played at Yukon High School in 2013)
Jon Denney was the first position player chosen by the Red Sox in this year’s draft. Taken with the 81st overall pick, the catcher from Yukon High School batted .459 with 14 doubles, six triples, and 11 home runs in 2013, while also grabbing 46 RBIs, 39 walks, and 17 runs scored in 42 games.
"For a little bit, I was surprised," CJ Medlin, Denney's coach at Yukon High School in Oklahoma, said of the wait to be selected, "…I feel like he's going to end up being one of the top kids of the high school catchers taken this year, when it's all said and done. I think he's got plenty of tools, I think his upside is tremendous and his ceiling is pretty much untapped right now."
Denney was named a 2013 Rawlings First-Team All-American and was the No. 3 rated draft-eligible catcher, according to Baseball America. In his junior year, he was named an All-American by Under Armor, Louisville Slugger, and named a Rawlings Underclassmen Second Team All-American.
It was annoucned on June 21 that Denney has officailly signed with the Red Sox.

Round 4: Myles Smith (RHP)
Hometown: Detroit, Mich. (played at Lee University in 2013)
Myles Smith, the Red Sox’ fourth pick in this year’s MLB First-Year Player Draft, was the highest player taken in the draft from an NAIA school, going to Boston with the 113rd pick, the highest selection of a player in Lee University history.
"I am really excited for Myles," said Lee head coach Mark Brew. "It is an honor to be drafted but to be drafted in the fourth round shows how much the Red Sox believe in his ability. He was already a 16th rounder last year for the New York Mets, but his hard work and time in our program, in particular with pitching coach [Michael Moody] really paid off for him. His velocity continued to improve all year, and what separates him from most was his ability to maintain or even increase his velocity late in games. He has earned this opportunity and we wish him the best."
Smith excelled for the Flames in his junior season, posting a record of 11-4 with an ERA of 2.67. He also struck out 94 batters and walked only 38 in 84.1 innings of work, helping Lee to a No. 2 national ranking and a third-place finish at the NAIA World Series.

Round 5: Corey Littrell (LHP)
Hometown: Louisville, Ky. (played at University of Kentucky in 2013)
Lefthander Corey Littrell went in the fifth round of the 2013 draft, taken by the Red Sox with the 143rd overall pick. The pitcher was the highest Wildcat taken in the draft since Alex Meyer was taken 23d overall in 2011.
"I know how to pitch," he said in an article by Michael Perriat on MLB.com. "My dad played professional baseball with the Dodgers, and at an early age he instilled in me how to pitch. I'm not a guy that's going to overpower anyone or anything like that, but I can control four pitches and I know how to pitch and I'm very smart on the mound."
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Littrell finished 2013 with a 6-5 record in 14 starts and an ERA of 3.72. He struck out 77 and walked 35 in a team-high 94.1 innings, holding opposing hitters to a batting average of .256. A 2012 All-SEC second team pitcher and semifinalist for college pitcher of the year, Littrell was drafted out of Trinity High School in 2010 by the Washington Nationals after being named the Louisville Slugger Kentucky Player of the Year.
It was announced on June 21 that Littrell has officially signed with the Red Sox. He has been assigned to the Red Sox Single-A affiliate Lowell Spinners for the 2013 season.

Round 6: Jordan Austin (OF)
Hometown: Ocala, Fla. (played at Forest High School in 2013)
With the 173rd overall pick, the Red Sox took outfielder Jordan Austin in the sixth round of the draft. Austin hit .351 with four home runs, 19 RBIs, and 22 runs scored this past season. He also added eight doubles, two triples, and five stolen bases, en route to helping Forest win a district title and earn a regional playoff berth.
Following his senior year, Austin was named to Rawlings’ Florida Region All High School Senior First Team. He was also named MVP of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All Star Baseball Classic earlier in June.
Austin, who had signed to play at Seminole State College, was a two-sport star during high school, also excelling in football, where he earned all-state honors as a safety following his junior season.
It was announced on June 21 that Austin has decided to sign with the Red Sox and begin his professional career.

Round 7: Mike Adams (LHP)
Hometown: Spring Hill, Fla. (played at University of Tampa in 2013)
Pitcher Mike Adams was taken in the seventh round by the Red Sox with the 203rd overall pick. The 6-foot-3 southpaw was the first Spartan taken in this year’s draft. Adams finished 2013 with a record of 8-0 and an ERA of 2.10 in 26 games. He struck out a team-high 77 in 64.1 innings this season, and held opposing batters to an average of just .210. He spent most of the season as a reliever, but started two games, including a six-scoreless inning performance against Grand Valley State in the national semifinal.
Adams was recognized as the 2013 Sunshine State Conference and South Region Pitcher of the Year, while also garnering All-American status. He also helped lead Tampa to a 47-12 record and the school’s sixth NCAA Division II national championship.

Round 8: Forrestt Allday (OF)
Hometown: Friendswood, Texas (played at University of Southern Arkansas in 2013)
Forrestt Allday became the second outfielder taken by the Red Sox in the 2013 draft, with Boston grabbing himwith the 233d overall pick. Allday became the highest player drafted from the University of Central Arkansas since Marquis Riley was taken in the second round in 1992. Allday also became the second UCA player taken in the draft since the program moved to NCAA Division I in 2007.
“I’m just so happy for Forrestt. It just shows that good things come to those that work hard,”said UCA head coach Allen Gum. “His name fits him, no question... Allday, everyday. He got better in every phase of the game. He increased his power, increased his speed, increased his arm. It’s great to see him recognized because he’s a tremendous baseball player. We were blessed and fortunate to have him as a part of our program.”
Allday hit .365 with 85 hits, 59 runs scored, and an on-base percentage of .503, good for fifth in the nation. He also stole 15 bases in 2013, while finishing the season with 110 total bases. He was named to the All-Southland Conference first-team after being named to the second-team in 2012. Allday was also named SLC Tournament MVP, helping UCA win the tournament championship and its first berth in the NCAA Division I tournament, where they made it all the way to the Starkville Regional finals.

Round 9: Kyle Martin (RHP)
Hometown: Austin, Texas (played at Texas A&M in 2013)
The Red Sox took pitcher Kyle Martin with the 263d overall pick. The righthander finished his Texas A&M career third on the Aggies’ all-time appearances list with 98. He went 3-4 with an ERA of 4.91 and 41 strikeouts over 58.2 innings in 2013.
In 2012, Martin went 6-5 with seven saves and a 3.20 ERA in 56.1 innings for the Aggies, while taking home an All-Big-12 Honorable Mention. He was also selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 35th round of last year’s MLB First-Year Player Draft.
It was announced on June 19 that Martin officially signed with the Red Sox. He was assigned to the Red Sox Single-A affiliate Lowell Spinners for the 2013 season.

Round 10: Taylor Grover (RHP)
Hometown: North Augusta, S.C. (played at University of South Carolina Aiken in 2013)
With the 293rd overall pick, the Red Sox took pitcher Taylor Grover, a reliever who finished the 2013 season with a 5-0 record and a 0.92 ERA. He led the Peach Belt Conference with 11 saves, totaling 20 in his USCA career, and threw 37 strikeouts in 29.1 innings over 31 games. His 11 saves also placed him in the top-10 in the nation.
Holding hitters to an average of just .154 in 2013, Grover was named a First-Team All-Peach Belt Conference selection, while also taking home consensus All-American honors. He was the first of three members of the USCA baseball team to be selected in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
It was announced on June 19 that Grover officially signed with the Red Sox. He has been assigned to the Red Sox Single-A affiliate Lowell Spinners for the 2013 season.

Round 11: Carlos Asuaje (INF)
Hometown: Weston, Fla. (played for Nova Southeastern University in 2013)
Carlos Asuaje was taken with the 323d overall pick. The junior shortstop, who will most likely play second base at the pro level, hit .320 this past season for Nova Southeastern, with 13 doubles, 33 RBIs, and a slugging percentage of .449. He also led the Sunshine State Conference in stolen bases with 32, and had 38 walks, 40 runs scored, and an on-base percentage of .441.
"We all are very excited for Carlos to be taken by the Red Sox," said Nova Southeastern head coach Greg Brown. "His many accolades speak to how successful his career here at NSU has been and his development has led to this opportunity. He has utilized his time and NSU's vast resources to put himself in position to succeed in professional baseball. This is an exciting time for Carlos, his family, and all of Shark Nation."
Asuaje was named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year in 2012, and was a three-time All-SSC selection. He also received five All-Region and three All-American honors in his college career, while also receiving three Gold Glove awards at the regional and national level.
It was announced on June 19 that Asuaje officially signed with the Red Sox. He has been assigned to the Red Sox Single-A affiliate Lowell Spinners for the 2013 season.

Round 12: Jake Drehoff (LHP)
Hometown: Alpharetta, Ga. (played for University of Southern Mississippi in 2013)
Jake Drehoff, a southpaw, went to Boston with the 353d overall pick. He started 15 games this past season for the Golden Eagles, posting a record of 5-5 with a 3.54 ERA. Drehoff also recorded 69 strikeouts on the year, while posting 30 walks in 81.1 innings.
He was named to the Conference USA All-freshman team in 2012, and helped the Golden Eagles reach the Conference USA Tournament Championship game in 2013, including a stellar performance in their semifinal win against Houston, in which he went six innings, allowing only two runs, none earned, on eight hits while recording four strikeouts. For his efforts in the tournament, rehoff was named to the C-USA All-Tournament Team.
It was announced on June 21 that Drehoff has officially signed with the Red Sox.

Round 13: Jordan Sheffield (RHP)
Hometown: Tullahoma, Tenn. (played at Tullahoma High School in 2013)
Despite missing most of the 2013 spring season due to Tommy John surgery, the Red Sox selected Jordan Sheffield with the 383d overall pick. He only pitched one game this season for Tullahoma High School, the season opener on March 12, in which he went 3.2 innings, allowing only two unearned runs on three hits, while striking out four and walking three. He was used for the next month primarily as a designated hitter, hitting .467 in 60 at bats with 28 hits and four home runs.
Sheffield had surgery on April 11 by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Ranked as high as 47th on MLB.com’s list of Top 50 draft picks earlier this season, Sheffield has already signed a letter of intent to play for Vanderbilt University. He must decide whether to honor that commitment or sign with the Red Sox by July 12. If he does not sign, he would not be eligible for the draft again until 2016.

Round 14: Jake Romanski (C)
Hometown: Corona, Calif. (played at San Diego State University in 2013)
The Red Sox took their second catcher of the draft, grabbing Jake Romanski with the 413th overall pick. A pupil of the Aztecs’ Hall of Fame coach Tony Gwynn, Romanski batted .303 this past season with nine doubles, three home runs, and 33 RBIs. At the conclusion of the regular season, he was named to the All-Mountain West Conference second team, and as well was named a semifinalist for the 2013 Johnny Bench Award, given to the best catcher in college baseball.
Romanski competed for the Mystic (Conn.) Schooners of the New England Collegiate Baseball League in the summer of 2012. He also competed for the Quincy (Ill.) Gems of the Prospect League in 2011, where he batted .282 with six doubles and 13 RBIS, helping lead the Gems to the league championship, and was also named to the Prospect League All-Star team.
