Man and woman shot in car in Dorchester but baby in back seat escapes unharmed

A man and woman were shot in a car on Devon Street in Dorchester this afternoon, but a baby sitting in the back seat was unharmed, Boston police said.

Authorities received a call for shots fired at 163 Devon St. at 1:57 p.m., police said.

All three in the car were hospitalized, Boston EMS spokeswoman Jennifer Mehigan said.

The man is in serious condition and the woman was in stable condition as of 2:30 p.m.

The baby was uninjured but was transported to the hospital as a precaution, Mehigan said.

No further information on the shooting was immediately available.

Also today, a Roslindale man turned himself into Boston police for allegedly shooting his cousin in the shoulder and leaving the scene of a shooting Saturday on Devon Street, police said.

Police responded to a report of a shot fired at 107 Devon St. at 9:19 a.m. Saturday and spoke to a resident of the home who was holding a towel against his shoulder to stem the bleeding from a gunshot wound, police said.

The man told police that his cousin had been “playing with a gun,” accidentally shot him, and left the building carrying the gun, police said. The man was taken to Boston Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

At 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Antoine Arthur, 33, turned himself into officers from the youth violence strike force and allegedly admitted to the shooting, police said.

Arthur is to be arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, police said.
