Downpours cause flooding along Charles River; Sudbury River also expected to overtop banks

As expected, last night’s pouring rain has caused flooding problems.

People living along low-lying areas of the Charles River should prepare for flooding, the weather service said.

Minor flooding started this morning at the Charles River at Dover in Needham as well as the South Natick and Wellesley line. The river reached flood stage at 4:45 this morning at 5.1 feet and is expected to rise to 5.2 feet by this evening. The Charles is expected to fall below the 5 foot-flood stage Sunday evening.

The Sudbury River at Saxonville is expected to reach minor flooding this morning and to remain above flood stage through much of the weekend, the weather service said. Flooding is expected to affect low-lying areas along the river in Wayland, including a part of Shore Road and Pelham Island Road near Heards Pond.
