A 24-year-old Jamaica Plain man was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck while riding a bicycle on a highway in California over the weekend, authorities there said.
Michael Arthur died of “multiple blunt force injuries,” according to officials at the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau.
The cyclist was hit on the eastbound side Interstate 80 in the city of Berkeley at about 4:30 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time, according to a police report from the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities, citing a preliminary investigation, believe the cyclist was struck when he tried to cross the highway’s eastbound lanes from the right-hand shoulder to the center media, the report said.
The driver of the 1997 Ford pickup truck, a 41-year-old man from Coulterville, Calif., was not injured, the report said.
