4-year-old girl dead in crash on Interstate 495 in Bellingham



A Providence man was charged with negligence today in the death of a 4-year-old girl who was ejected from the car he was driving after he crashed through a guardrail on the northbound side of Interstate 495 in Bellingham, State Police said.


Luis J. Gonzalez, the 22-year-old driver, was uninjured in the crash and will also be charged with improperly securing a child in a restraint seat Another passenger in the car, Ilienes S. Santana, 20, also of Providence, was transported to Milford Hospital with serious injuries, according to State Police.


The relationship between the car̢۪s three occupants was not immediately available.


State troopers responded to the crash just before Exit 18 around 6:30 a.m. today. The 2000 Honda Accord had gone over the guardrail on the right side of the highway and rolled over, according to State Police.


The young girl was transported to Milford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.


Troopers are investigating the crash and any contributing factors that may have led to the child̢۪s death.
