Sports:

Red Sox: The Red Sox begin their last regular-season series against the Yankees tonight. John Lackey starts against the Yankees' Hiroki Kuroda. It'll air on WWOR/NESN if you're not lucky enough to have tickets. More coverage here

Today: Cloudy. Showers likely with a chance of thunderstorms this morning...then a chance of showers this afternoon. Areas of fog this morning. It'll be cooler than the last few days with highs in the 60s.


Tonight... Mostly cloudy in the evening...then clearing. Much cooler with lows in the lower 50s.


Tomorrow: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 60s.

Traffic:


- Utility work will continue Wednesday on Rt-2 Eastbound at Mt. Tabor Rd.

- Road construction on Rt-3 will continue throughout the week from Memorial Dr. to Vassar St.

- Rt. 225 will experience utility work both directions at Shawsheen Rd./Pine St. starting at 7 a.m.

What’s in the news?


- Arraignment is set for today in Boston for three friends of marathon bombings suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The three allegedly hindered the attack probe by agreeing to conceal and destroy some of Tsarnaev's belongings from investigators.


- Governor Deval Patrick is making another pitch to state lawmakers to approve his gun control proposal. The Patrick legislation would mandate background checks for gun show weapons buyers, tighten access to some ammunition and would specify new firearms-related crimes.


- Federal authorities say a person taken into custody after missing developmentally-disabled teen Brittany Thompson turned up safe yesterday will make a court appearance today. The 17-year-old had been reported missing after leaving a Medfield library. She was found walking along a Rhode Island street yesterday with a man.


Events for today:


- British indie-rockers Alt-J take the stage at Bank of America Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. tonight.


- Fall beer is the focus at the Samuel Adams Octoberfest at the Park Plaza Castle this weekend. The two-day event kicks off tonight with a VIP reception from 5-10 p.m., followed by an all-day celebration tomorrow from 1-9 p.m.


- Cogswell Grant in Essex will host the gracious Herrman's Royal Lipizzan Stallions of Austria this weekend. Tonight's show begins at 5 p.m.
