Red Line service delayed after woman hit by train at Kendall/MIT stop

Service at seven busy stops on the MBTA Red Line was interrupted for over an hour Sunday afternoon after a woman on the tracks at the Kendall/MIT station was struck by a train and sustained serious injuries, according to T officials. Officials are investigating how the woman got on the tracks, but Joe Pesaturo, T spokesman, said she did not fall, nor was she pushed. She was struck just before 4:30 p.m., Pesaturo said. Red Line trains from Central Square to Broadway experienced “significant delays” for an hour, according to the Massachusetts State Police official Twitter handle. The incident is under investigation, Pesaturo said. This is the second time this month a person on MBTA tracks was struck by a train. On Saturday, July 6, the body of a man in his 30s was removed from Davis Square T station in Somerville. The man’s cause of death was not immediately available.
