Cooling centers are open during declared heat emergencies, or when temperatures in Boston have reached 90 degrees for three consecutive days. The centers offer air conditioning or access to a public pool.
“With another heat wave upon us, it’s important for everyone, especially children and the elderly, to be smart and take precautions," said Mayor Thomas M. Menino, in a statement. “We’re asking residents and visitors to stay hydrated and out of the hot sun whenever possible. We hope people will take advantage of all the resources we have available out in the neighborhoods.”
Call the cooling center near you for hours and availability or visit the City of Boston's website. Cooling center addresses and telephone numbers are listed in this interactive map.
Green markers indicate air-conditioned facilities. Light blue markers note public pools. The dark blue marker is public beach access.
