Cooling centers are open during declared heat emergencies, or when temperatures in Boston have reached 90 degrees for three consecutive days. The centers offer air conditioning or access to a public pool.
“With another heat wave upon us, it’s important for everyone, especially children and the elderly, to be smart and take precautions," said Mayor Thomas M. Menino, in a statement. “We’re asking residents and visitors to stay hydrated and out of the hot sun whenever possible. We hope people will take advantage of all the resources we have available out in the neighborhoods.”
