Thousands of people around the country have rallied for Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old Florida high school student who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a Neighborhood Watch volunteer, who said he shot unarmed Martin on Feb. 26 in self-defense.
Zimmerman, 28, turned himself in at a county jail after prosecutor Angela Corey announced the charge of second degree murder Wednesday evening. Corey said Zimmerman would appear before a magistrate Thursday and plead not guilty in the Feb. 26 shooting that set off a nationwide debate about racial profiling and the rights to self-defense.
