A pickup truck crashed into a Brockton Papa Ginoâ™s Pizzeria early this afternoon, breaking open one of the restaurantâ™s brick walls and sending two people, including the driver, to the hospital, Brockton police said.
According to Brockton Police Sergeant Scott Besarick, a 26-year-old male patron was taken by ambulance to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital with injuries that âœdidnâ™t appear [to be] life-threatening.â
The driver, John Veiga, a 73-year-old Brockton resident , also went to the hospital, but âœdidnâ™t seem like he had any apparent injuries,â said Besarick.
No arrests were made. The driver was cited by police for failure to stay in marked lanes, and police also sent a request to the Registry of Motor Vehicles asking that his license be suspended, Besarick said.
According to Brockton police, the Ford F-150 truck demolished three-quarters of the buildingâ™s street-facing facade, shattering the wallâ™s glass windows and busting open its brick siding.
The restaurant, located at 675 Crescent St., closed immediately following the crash, and itâ™s unclear when it will reopen, Besarick said. He added that at least eight patrons and several employees were inside the restaurant at the time of the crash.
