The average price of gas in Massachusetts was $3.62 in the latest weekly AAA survey, up 14 cents from the previous weekâ™s average, AAA Southern New England said Monday.
A combination of tensions in the Middle East and the increasing demand of the summer driving season has pushed the price of a barrel of oil past the $100 mark, leading to hire gas prices at the pump, AAA Southern New England added.
The current national average for gas is $3.61 a gallon. A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was 15 cents lower at $3.47.
In the latest AAA weekly survey, the range in prices was 37 cents, from a low of $3.48 to a high of $3.85.
AAAâ™s weekly surveys focus on self-serve, regular unleaded gas.
