HP Hood will hand out free Harvey Bars on City Hall Plaza from Wednesday through Friday this week.

Summer is ice cream season, and for three days this week, the local dairy company HP Hood will help downtown workers, visitors, and residents cool off with a free frozen treat, the firm announced.

From Wednesday through Friday, representatives of the Lynnfield-based firm will hand out samples of its latest confection, the Hood Harvey Bar, on City Hall Plaza, Hood said in a statement.

Bow-tied pedicab drivers will distribute three flavors of the Harvey Bar, each coated in chocolate: vanilla, vanilla crisp, and cookies ’n’ cream. The new bar, introduced this spring, is named in tribute to HP Hood founder Harvey Perley Hood, the firm said.

This three-day event, which will also include the distribution of Hood coupons, marks the official public launch of the Harvey Bar, Hood said.

Hood representatives will be on City Hall Plaza from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day from Wednesday, July 17, to Friday, July 19. For more information about HP Hood, visit www.hood.com.
