Body found in water off L Street Bathhouse in Boston

A body was recovered today in the shallow waters in front of the L Street Bathhouse on Day Boulevard in South Boston, officials said.

The cause of death is being determined in an autopsy by the state medical examiner̢۪s office, a spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Authorities are trying to confirm the identity of the person and then notify next of kin, said spokesman Jake Wark.

The discovery led State Police and Boston police to close off a section of Carson Beach between M Street and the bathhouse as they investigated the person̢۪s death.

Authorities have a boat patrolling the area, which appeared to be inspecting boats moored off the beach.

Except for the area cordoned off by police, Carson Beach seems to have drawn normal crowds today, the fifth straight day the region is sweltering in a heat wave.
