Shawâ™s supermarket chain announced that it will close six stores in the next month.
The company said it plans to shutter grocery stores in Fall River, Fairhaven, Stoughton, and Taunton in Massachusetts and two Rhode Island stores, in Westerly and Woonsocket, by Aug. 3.
âœThe stores identified have not been profitable for quite some time, and despite the best efforts of the company and our associates, we have not been able to reposition them to better compete in the marketplace and donâ™t anticipate being able to change this trend,â the company said in a press release issued Monday evening.
Shawâ™s and Star Market are headquartered in West Bridgewater and owned by the same firm, Cerberus Capital Management LP. The New England chains operate 155 Shawâ™s and 14 Star Market stores. All the stores that are closing are under the Shawâ™s name.
