Aaron Hernandez taken away from his home in handcuffs by State Police; charges not yet known

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH -- New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was led out of his house this morning in handcuffs facing undisclosed charges.

Hernandez has been under investigation in connection with the murder of his acquaintance, Odin L. Lloyd, 27, whose body was found June 17 at an industrial park near Hernandez’s home.

It was not immediately known what charges Hernandez is facing.

Hernandez’s attorneys, James L. Sultan and Michael Fee, did not return telephone calls this morning seeking comment.

Bristol County District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter’s office did not respond to requests for information about the action taken against Hernandez today.

Lloyd died from several gunshot wounds and the Globe has reported he was killed where his body was found.

Around 8:40 a.m., a group of about five police cars, including a marked cruiser from the North Attleborough police, arrived at the professional football player’s home where media have been staked out since last week.

Plainclothes officers went to the front door and were greeted by a shirtless Hernandez.

About five minutes later, Hernandez was escorted from the house with a white t-shirt pulled over his hands, which were cuffed behind his back. He was put into the marked North Attleborough cruiser and then driven to the police station where it is anticipated he will be undergo the booking process.

Hernandez is expected to be arraigned later today in Attleboro District Court.
